英国出身の日英翻訳者・ネイティブチェッカーです。現在セントラルイングランドに住んでいます。大学で言語学を学んだ後、ジャーナリスト・ライターとしてキャリアをスタートしました。ライターとして培った「綿密な推敲」、「幅広い内容について書かれた文章の編集」といったスキルは、現在の校閲者・チェッカーとしての仕事に大いに役立っています。その後4年間日本に住み英語講師として 働きながら日本語を学ぶ機会を得たことで、大学で専攻した言語学の知識とあわせて翻訳者として働くために必要なスキルを獲得しました。
2010年から 専業の日英翻訳者・チェッカーとして活動しており、ライター時代に主に取り扱ったマーケティング、広報、ビジネス系の文書を得意分野としています。日英翻訳に加え、 日本語から英語に翻訳された文章を綿密にクロスチェックすることで、原文への忠実さを保ちながら文章の流れと自然さを高めることができます。
I am a U.K.-born Japanese-English translator/native checker currently resident in central England. After studying linguistics at university, I started my professional life as a journalist and writer. My experience as a writer gave me the skills I would later need as a proofreader and checker, such as close attention to detail and the ability to edit documents written on a wide range of subjects. I later moved to Japan, where I studied Japanese while working as an English teacher. In combination with my university degree in linguistics, my studies of Japanese provided me with the skills I needed to work in the translation industry.
For the last nine years, I have been work solely on Japanese-English translation and proofreading. My specialist areas of work include marketing, PR and business-related documents (which is related to my previous experience as a writer). I am capable of accurately cross-checking documents that have been translated from Japanese into English in order to improve the flow and naturalness of the text.
